David Beaulieu,
Electa Quinney Professor, Department of Educational Policy and Community Studies

David Beaulieu is director of the Electa Quinney Institute for American Indian Education as well as a professor in Educational Policy and Community Studies. He teaches courses on history and policy development in American Indian education. As director of the Institute, established in 2009, he is working to bring together the perspectives of faculty and students from a variety of disciplines and existing programs to focus on education and policy issues in partnership with the American Indian tribes and communities. An enrolled member of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe, White Earth Reservation, Beaulieu is a nationally known expert on American Indian Education policy. In addition to a long career in government and education, he has served on the board of directors and as president of the National Indian Education Association. From 1997-2001, he was the director of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Indian Education. Beaulieu, who earned his doctorate in education administration from the University of Minnesota, served on the Indian Nations at Risk Task Force, and has written extensively about Indian education.
